The Imperial War Museum The Imperial War Museum located in Lambeth, London, United Kingdom, is first of all a great place for learning, beginning with schools, families and all ages. The Museum is divided in three parts, you can take any branch of it in order to get introduced with the impact of the war on the wold and human beings. First part: Churchill Museum and cabinet of War rooms, which works with exciting learning programs for Schools, Universities and family, Video-conferences about the second World war, games and souvenir packs you can collect during the visit day. The second two parts HMS Belfast, and IWM London. IWM Duxford located in Cambridgeshire, and IWM North is on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal also presents a variety of interesting and useful things for learning. Until 1930 the museum was home to the infamous Bedlam mental asylum. In the present the building represents the largest military museum, it emphasizes by paintings and sophisticated exhibits, not only the glory of the Empire but also the horror, fear and confusion inflicted during the conflict. The museum works Mon-Sun 10:00-18:00. Admission FREE there may be a charge for special exhibitions. Nearest Tube: Lambeth North The exhibitions presented are: "From War to Windrush", 13th June 2008 to 29th March 2009, this exhibition speaks about the implication of black men and women from the West Indies and Britain in the First and Second World Wars, with presentation of personal stories. Admission is free. War Artists in the Middle East, Date: 8th September 2007 to 25th August 2008, this exhibition presents the work of British artists where is documented the conflict i the middle east and from the First World War to most recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Admission is free. The Children's War, 18th March 2005 to 1st January 2010, the exhibition presents a special and moving work concerning the impact of the war on the children who lived through it. |
